Easy 5 Steps in Installing a Security Camera
Many people rely on security video cameras to increase protection in their home to protect their whole family and property. Cameras can be purchased anywhere, and that’s not a problem. There is no need to contact a company that offers a security camera installation, too. Actually, you can install it at home by yourself in only a few minutes. Here are the basic steps on how to install a security camera for your home.
1. Check all the contents of the camera if they are all present before you install it. It should have an RCA video cable, an AC power adapter of pack of batteries and a manual instruction to help you more on how to install and fix cameras. Other accessories depends if the camera you have is hardwired or wireless. For a wired camera, measure the length of the RCA cable to check if the recorder or monitor is reached for good connection. If the camera is wireless, install the batteries or battery pack.
2. Locate the specific area where you want to mount the camera. If you want to install more than one camera, ensure to plan the location ahead where all of the cameras will provide you a wider coverage for monitoring. You have the option to install one camera outside your house. Check the area if the camera will be protected against weather. There are some cameras that have motion sensor. This will give a greater chance of detecting any movement. So, when you install a camera with motion sensor for the outdoor, the area should be away from trees and bushes that will not trigger the camera. Also, decide the best angle and how high the camera should be.
3. Prepare the mounting bracket. This always comes with the camera. Hold the mounting bracket in the area you selected with one hand and mark the screw holes using a pencil with the other hand. And if necessary, drill pilot holes. If the holes will be situated in a stud, make sure to have a stud finder. Otherwise you will be using a drywall anchor bolt. It’s better to use a drill which is slightly smaller than the screw you will use in mounting the bracket. Insert the screws into the holes or to the drywall anchor bolt.
4. Place the security camera or cameras onto the mounting bracket. The camera should be attached in a tightly secured position. When your camera is a wired one, connect both the camera and the monitor based on the given direction from the manufacturer. Plug the wired camera into the outlet and if there is a need to adjust the picture, do it for best reception. For both wired and wireless cameras, set up the receiver to the monitor or computer.
5. Test if the camera works properly. If the camera you have chosen has software included, download it. Once you finished installed the software and everything seems to be all set, go around the area to see if the camera gives an alarm.
Installing a security camera doesn’t require an intensive work. What’s important to consider is to have the best camera for your house. Hence, ensure the camera you are using has reliable features and great accessories included.
