Many people who use oil as their source of heating fuel will have some worries about its safety. In general oil is considered to be very safe as a form of heating but as with other types of fuels there could be some dangers. The biggest dangers surround the possibility of oil leakage or problems with the boiler. If handled correctly there is no reason why people should be too worried about using oil to heat their home. In fact the vast majority of users will never have any difficulties.

Checking your fuel line and oil tank regularly can help to ensure that you avoid any potential dangers. It is important to ensure that there are no oil leaks. Plastic tanks are now preferred by many as they are less likely to have leaks. It is believed to be better if you keep tanks inside buildings because that way they are less exposed to the elements. This is not always practical though. Rust, weak spots or dents are all things you should be checking your tank for. Plus, while you are checking your tank for problems you should keep an eye on the oil level so that you will be alerted if you notice a suspicious drop.

It is also important that you check your fuel line as this connects the tank to the boiler. You will be able to find the parts that are above ground near the tank and the boiler even if some of the line is buried. Your fuel line should have a sleeve on it for added protection.

If your boiler stops working it is important that you make no attempt to fix it yourself. Only a trained professional should tamper with this and messing around with sparks and oil has the potential to be very dangerous.

There is more than likely no need to worry about using heating oil but it is always wise to be careful. Just carrying out a few checks here and there can mean that you won’t have to worry at all.

Getting the home heated up during winter can be very expensive. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. And when this happens they have to ensure the tanks re always full of Boilerjuice to make sure they don’t run dry in the cold weather.
